Our Brains by Dr. Liz Angoff

Workbook design and illustration -2025

The challenge:

Dr. Liz Angoff has dedicated her career to helping children understand how their particular brains work.
This time, she contacted me to help create a tool that parents and caregivers could use together with their children to understand their diagnosis. The project challenges were to:

Create a tool with positive and simple imagery that engages both audiences: parents and children.

Provide clear evidence that the workbook helps in the real world—with real patients and families.

Maintain a cohesive style and imagery similar to the previous workbook tools already offered by Dr. Liz for practitioners.

The solution:

We started working on a 'draft' workbook—not a finished version—that could be tested right away with families. Then, based on their feedback, we could deliver a final version of the tool

For the style, I follow the sketch concepts created by Andrew Falk and we followed the premise 'Simple and Positive.' We decided a simple black line imagery, reminiscent of a whiteboard explanatory style, would work best for our audience. We highlighted specific moments or key elements in each section of the book to make it engaging and fun to explore, without losing the feeling of it being a tool you can actually work and draw on.
